No time to be complacent

Sunday, December 31st, 2006 by

Further to my last post I will elaborate further on the changes that we in the Apps development community need to prepare for. This will be a shock to many of us, seeing as the technology stack has remained fairly static over the last 10 years. I myself must admit to a sly smile when listening to the woes of non Apps developers who bemoan the need to constantly retrain. Well now that time has come for us as well!

Firstly we all need to get to grips with OA Framework which needs a good understanding of Java/J2EE. Secondly we need to get to grips with XML Publisher which is a very powerful reporting tool. As I read more about these subjects and how I am able utilise these technologies in my current work I will have an open discussion about it on the Blog.

These technologies will arrive in full strength in R12 and will dominate in Fusion. However Fusion will bring a revolution to the business models found in those modules which will now incorporate the Siebel and Peoplesoft Architectures. Lets be honest, these products do have a number of advantages over their comparative Oracle products.

So what are you waiting for, get up off your backside and start studying.

Apps is a changin’

Having more than 10 years experience in Oracle Apps Development, I have come to understand the key criteria behind successful implementations, upgrades and ongoing support. Have a regular check of this Track to understand how the technology stack is rapidly changing and what direction we should be heading to benefit from this change.

I am off to Venice for a week with the family and will be posting in earnest when back!

Friday, December 22nd, 2006 by

Hello, and welcome to the Apps DBA Track.

This will be the first of many posts where we hope to answer any questions you may have, but also give lots of insight into the technical architecture and best practices of the Oracle e-Business suite.

We are starting this at an exciting time within the Oracle e-Business Suite community, what with Release 11i firmly established as the class leading ERP solution and with Release 12 just around the corner. This Track will start to give you the up-to-date information for Release 12 and aims to discuss the new configurations and technical challanges this provides.

The success of this Track will largly depend upon the involvment of our readers. Please get in touch with any questions or suggestions and we will make sure any subjects you suggest are covered in exact detail.

Thanks for reading.

OracleContractors.com launches Forum as part of the Blog

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006 by Kirsten Campbell

The success of the OracleContractors.com Forum will be down to all the people who contribute, ask questions, resolve issues etc.

We hope the environment we have produced is conducive to networking with the Oracle Apps Community at large.

Please recommend us to your friends and colleagues. The more successful and known the forum is, the greater value to all as an information asset it will become.
