How many years of Oracle Apps experience do you have?
A: I joined Oracle EMEA in 1998 so this will be my 10th year of working with Oracle Applications.
How did you come to work with Oracle Apps?
A: I was doing an Executive MBA at the Bath school Of Management whilst also managing a Pharmaceutical Sales Team. One of my fellow students was a Manager (and he’s now a VP) at Oracle and he was due to create a “Front Office” EMEA practice. He asked me whether I wanted to be his first “CRM” Consultant! I had no idea what Oracle was or even did! It has been a mind blowing experience!
When did you become an Oracle Contractor?
A: I first became an Independent Contractor in 2001. I currently am employed in Australia.
What is the most enjoyable part of your work?
A: The Opportunity to experience different cultures and work with different people across the globe. I have worked in Europe, Africa, America and Asia. I have met many very nice people and learnt a lot about life. I consider myself very lucky. I enjoy all client facing aspects of my work.
What is the least enjoyable part of your work?
A: When a client or a colleague starts to believe that they know everything there is to know!!!
What has been the most satisfying project you have worked on and why?
A: I ran a CRM Training project for Beckman Coulter out of Los Angeles and Nyon (Switzerland) in 2001 to late 2002. They are one of the few companies that seemed to want to do it right. I have often used that project as a CRM Case Study. The motto was People + Processes + Technology. That just about gets it right for a successful CRM project.
Which consultant / contractor have you learnt the most from / enjoyed working with the most and why?
A: Alan Burgham. I worked with him at Oracle and his enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge is inspiring!
What do you see happening in Oracle Apps as we move towards “Fusion”?
A: In the CRM space, I can foresee a lot more emphasis on Business Process definition and 3rd party integration.
What are the hot topics in your area of expertise?
A: What is the future for Oracle CRM? Some clients are nervous about the future migration path whilst others see recent enhancements as “opportunities”. From a Strategic perspective, the move towards the full 360’ view of a customer is still regarded as the Holy Grail of CRM. Those who find the Grail then realise that they then need to be able to provide better products and services within their knew found playing field of customer knowledge.
What do you do when you are not working?
A: When I’m not with my kids or Partner, I enjoy Diving, Flying, Travelling, Reading and playing Sport.
